OPEN LETTER TO THE TRAIL RUNNING COMMUNITY
After spending time speaking with runners, media, race directors, and industry leaders directly to share how the launch of this event came to be, we want to also speak more broadly to the global trail running community.
ABOUT THE RACE
Your alpine playground is waiting for you at the 2024 Ultra Trail Whistler by UTMB. Join us for an epic event that tackles everything Whistler has to offer. Whistler Blackcomb, a world class resort and home to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, sets the stage for your event. Each course tours this iconic destination and provides a balance of challenge and beauty. Runners will experience views of Black Tusk, mountain lakes, and alpine vistas. Enjoy two days of racing and three distances for the inaugural edition in 2024!
Ultra Trail Whistler by UTMB is grateful to run and play on the shared, unceded territory of the Lil’wat People, known in their language as L̓il̓wat7úl, and the Squamish People, known in their language as Sḵwx̱wú7mesh.

Through UTMB Cares, we have set out to achieve something extraordinary by caring for the amazing environments that host our trail events. UTMB Cares is a program of The IRONMAN Foundation. Since 2003, over $55 million has been provided through IRONMAN and IRONMAN Foundation charitable giveback programs to more than 10,000 local, regional, national, and global nonprofit initiatives. Including $50,000 in grant funding for clean-up and restoration efforts of the Western States Trail, enjoyed by The Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB®️ runners, in partnership with Western States Endurance Run and The Tevis Cup. Together, we are on a quest to engage our community and care for our race surroundings through grant funding and volunteerism efforts.
The artwork was created by Chief Ray of the Squamish Nation. It was adapted to fit within the confines of the logo in collaboration with him, and you will see his signature featured on the side of the mountain range within the logo. Ultra Trail Whistler by UTMB has purchased the original artwork by Chief Ray, and it continues to hang in the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre (SLCC).
“In Whistler, Black Tusk is the perch of the Thunderbird. The Thunderbird was created to bring balance to the world and is the messenger of the Creator, a symbol of peace, power and unity. The moon is the one who brings light to the worlds when it’s dark, he is the grandfather who brings us calmness.”
